At the start of Comm tech 2, I set out to get the most out of my new camera, a journey which took me down many roads. I started out with a Canon 500d, and after using a Sony vx2100e it was a massive change, first of all the huge decrease in size after all the Canon is a Digital SLR camera designed for taking photographs,But also possesses full high definition recording, this is the feature that drew me in with the camera, after researching thoroughly the quality of production this camera is capable of, I decided to go ahead an make the purchase.
So heading straight back to college we got briefed in Comm tech 2, Which was essentially go and learn a new way of working and the fact I had this brand new camera was a perfect opportunity for me to experiment. So my comm tech project is almost a piece by piece journey of me learning to use my new camera. Hopefully my blog and work show this.
Also on this project I gained the knowledge of what a fantastic “arsenal” of camera kit the college has. Through this module I have gotten to know Matt downstairs and he has really helped me in the fact of I can talk to him and he just seems to be able to help with anything, he also introduced me to the Merlin steady cam, which suffice to say I failed in learning how to use but give a few more tests and time and I should be able to get to grips with it.
As the project went on I found myself getting more comfortable with what I was learning, finding out that there was a whole community on the internet who specialise in DSLR moviemaking, and the help was out there whether it be in forum or video form.
Over the course of the module I found myself submerged into looking deeper into the technical side of film making like working with editing software properly and this was definitely one of the most important things I learnt over comm tech, it has redefined the outcomes of my work and I am really glad that comm tech helped me to overcome the uploading problems I had before.
However, I also stated that I wanted to learn basic editing in After effects, I suppose I could say I got so submerged in editing in premier that I completely overlooked after effects, this is one of the downfalls of my project as I think this software will be really useful to me in future, so I aim going to sit down and learn the basic principals of this software in my own time.
Overall, I if could do this project again I would certainly make more time for different aspects of film making, such as lighting and studio shooting. Multi camera shoots and working with a crew, I would also like to look into sound production and recording.
Other than that I found Comm tech 2 was an excellent insight of where my journey through Viscom is headed.

tuborg brief outcome.
this is the video i cam up with for the tuborg breif.
shot indoors in low lighting so i had to use the 50mm, which works perfect in these conditions.
the video itself is a collective of the things i have learnt over Comm tech, it shows that i have leanrt to export to web in HD properly, working to someone's specifiactions and shooting to a style.
I enjoyed making this and i hope the outcome was effective.

Merlin steadycam testing.
i went to visit matt in the AV room in college and had a good chat about cameras and steadycams. He hired me out the Merlin and i gave it a test.
after an induction i found my first time using a steadycam very difficult. it was hard work to get the image to stay still and get the weighting right.
in the future i plan to get decent footage out of a steady cam but right now i find them very difficult to use so i will have to give them a lot of practice.

H246 encoding
I researched into proper HD exporting for web. i needed to learn H246 encoding which is the proper settings for exporting to web in high definition.
I read over Vimeo's exporting tips for help and browsed the internet for help.
I produced a series of tests for this.
one which can be seen in the video below

IV DONE IT
after 5 gruelling hours of sifting through website i finally discovered how to export in HD suffice to say i am so happy for sitting down and figuring this one out now i can make the most of my camera and software!
A day at the bowling alley,
Got paid for helping a friend of mine shoot a promotional video for a local bowling alley in southport.
I managed to get a good amount of well taken shots and made my own little feature with them.

Ycn Brief. Tuborg Campaign
So scouring through the YCN briefs website. I found that Tuborg are looking to promote their lager to 18-25 year old's who love music.
I have decided to take on this brief as a not competative task.
I am going to use the college cameras and pull myself out of the comfort of using my own kit.
I plan to shoot some kind of musical gathering of friends who end up jamming and of course the Tuborg will be Flowing.
I guess you could say that i will be shooting in an advertising style.
The new krounenbourg advert featuring Motorhead would be a very similar vibe i will be going for.
Lets see what happens!
